Evok struggled to roll over, but the movement only succeeded in making the ground tilt out from under him again.
“Don’t be stressin’ yourself, lad. It’s best to stay as you are ‘til I can see if there’s aught wrong with you.”
Brusque but careful hands felt along his body, searching for broken bones or other injuries. Evok opened his mouth to reply, but nothing came out. He wet his lips and swallowed, trying again. “’M fine. Check her.” He lifted a trembling hand towards Evrana.

Although night had fully descended, evidenced by a dark canopy pricked by the twinkling light of stars that arced overhead, the twilight ambiance of Darkshore was still prevalent. Evok rubbed at his eyes and yawned, leaning heavily against the fallen tree at his back. The small fire before him, little more than burning embers, crackled suddenly as a log settled sending a shower of sparks into the air, ascending higher and higher as if they were trying to join their cousins in illuminating the sky. The fire died down again, the fiery orange of the smoldering embers fluttering amidst amongst the black charcoal of the dying fire. The night was still again except for the occasional rustlings of some small nocturnal beast and the mournful hoot of an owl that came from the shadows of the surrounding forest.

“Where is she?” muttered Evok Lightstrider as he stood on the pier that led up to the Auberdine Inn watching the ship from Menethil Harbor pull into dock. As soon as it was tied up, his keen eyes picked out the forms of a few humans, some dwarves, and even a gnome as they rushed off the boat. Disembarking at a more leisurely pace was a group of Kaldorei, night elves, returning to their native lands from the far off Eastern Kingdoms.
